Anyone who is lucky enough to live with a cat knows: the house cat is a member of the family. We are only doing well if our extremely independent but irresistibly lovable fur ball is also doing well.

WHICH DISEASES ARE COMMON IN CATS?

Unfortunately, cats are also at risk from a variety of diseases that can affect their well-being and sometimes even be life-threatening. The most common diseases include:

CAT FRUIT

Cat cold is a highly contagious respiratory infection caused by bacteria or viruses. It mainly affects young animals and can lead to death if left untreated. Symptoms include nasal discharge, sneezing, watery and sticky eyes, fever and unwillingness to eat. If your cat shows such signs, you should definitely contact the vet, who will usually carry out treatment with antibiotics.
Cats can be vaccinated against cat flu.

CAT DISEASE

Cat disease is also a highly contagious and life-threatening cat disease. It is caused by viruses and manifests itself with symptoms such as high fever, fatigue, reluctance to move, loss of appetite and vomiting. Veterinary treatment with infusions against dehydration and serum antibodies is urgently necessary to prevent a severe course.
Cat disease can be prevented with vaccinations.

FIP

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a very contagious and life-threatening infection with corona viruses. Symptoms of the usually fatal disease include a bloated body due to fluid retention, loss of appetite and fatigue, difficulty breathing and eye inflammation. There are currently no treatment options for FIP; the veterinarian can only treat symptoms.
The best prevention against the disease is vaccination.

FELINE LEUKEMIA

Feline leukemia is a life-threatening viral disease in which the formation of blood cells is disrupted. Symptoms include fever, loss of appetite, physical weakness and weight loss. There is no direct treatment option for feline leukemia.
However, you can have your cat vaccinated against feline leukemia.

CHRONIC RENAL INSUFFICIENCY

Older animals are particularly affected by chronic kidney problems. As the disease progresses, kidney function gradually declines.
Symptoms of kidney disease include nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue, vomiting, weight loss, increased drinking, excessive urination, discolored urine, dehydration, bad breath odor.
Chronic kidney failure cannot be cured. Special diet food with a reduced protein content helps to relieve the strain on the kidneys and slow the progression of the disease.

PARASITES

A variety of parasites can affect cats. When it comes to parasites, a distinction is made between internal parasites and external parasites. Internal parasites include various worms. External parasites include ticks, fleas and mites.
Parasites endanger the health of the affected animals: fleas can cause skin irritations, ticks can transmit diseases such as Lyme disease, and worms affect gastrointestinal health.
To protect against parasite infestation, there are various preparations in the form of tablets, spot-ons or sprays.

CAT DIABETES

Cats can also get diabetes. In diabetes, too little insulin is produced in the pancreas, which leads to high blood sugar levels. This weakens the immune system. If left untreated, feline diabetes is life-threatening. Symptoms include weight loss despite a good appetite, increased drinking and fatigue. Diabetes can be treated well: in milder cases, a change in diet helps; in more severe cases, the insulin level is stabilized with insulin injections.

KATZENDIABETES

TOXINS IN THE BODY INCREASE THE RISK OF ILLNESS

Like all living creatures, our velvet paws are increasingly confronted with harmful substances. In principle, a cat's own detoxification system ensures that harmful substances are bound and excreted. The kidneys and liver are primarily involved in detoxification, but also the intestines, lungs and skin. The unrestricted functionality of these organs is necessary for survival. If the organism does not succeed in excreting toxins or does not do so sufficiently, this leads to illness and possibly even death.

The many sources of pollutants for cats include:

  • chemical additives in cat food (e.g. preservatives)
  • Mold toxins in cat food (introduced through added grain)
  • Pesticide residues in the plant components of cat food
  • Drug residues in the animal components of cat food)
  • Medication (e.g. antibiotics, cortisone, narcotics)
  • Vaccines
  • Antiparasitics (agents to ward off ticks, fleas, worms)
  • Heavy metals (for example from sea fish in food)
  • Residues of hormones, medications, chlorine and lead in drinking water
  • Car exhaust fumes
  • Tobacco smoke (if the cat lives in a smoking household)

Overall, the individual stress factors can lead to an overload of our cats' body's detoxification system and damage the animals' health in the long term. Signs such as dwindling vitality, frequently recurring infections and chronic illnesses indicate increased pollution.

HOW CAN I GENTLY DETOX MY CAT?

If your cat is often sick, appears listless and dull in the long term, and treatments at the vet only lead to short-term improvement, it may make sense to consider detoxification therapy.
It is recommended that cats be gently detoxified over a longer period of time - otherwise you risk putting additional strain on the animal's organism.
A gentle detoxification therapy combines three elements:

  1. the actual detoxification, i.e. the binding of toxins to a carrier and their subsequent excretion from the organism
  2. the stabilization of the organs that are involved in the body's detoxification system, especially the liver, kidneys and intestines
  3. strengthening the immune system

DETOXIFICATION AS A PREVENTIVE MEASURE

As a preventive measure, detoxification treatments are particularly useful if our animal has to deal with additional exposure to toxins. This is the case, for example

  • after antibiotic therapy
  • after anesthesia
  • after using painkillers
  • after administration of antiparasitic drugs.
